Record keeping

We haven't caught up with all the documentation of our outstanding flying day on Sunday, but we have a good excuse.

Evan declared a 532 km triangle and completed it at 66.8 mph. This outstanding flight blew away the previous Vermont state speed record of 62 mph and earned him 13 other state records for speed and distance. Without waterballast. Congratulations to Evan on his planning and execution!  We expect him to write his story any day now.

The Vermont record keeper was busy yesterday.  With luck, the weekend report will appear later today.

That's a long afternoon cruising at 90 knots!

How come Sports Class does not have speed records?

The Sports Class does have speed records.

Then how come the Sports class speed record is not listed as having been broken by Evan's flight? Was some previous flight faster after applying the handicap? What ship was that in?

That's a good question. There is a debate about whether you can claim more than one speed record on the same flight. Evan's flight did beat the current Sports Class 300 km triangle speed record. We are awaiting a final ruling from SSA.

This just in: Evan has withdrawn his claim on the 300 km triangle speed record in the Sports Class. That leaves it open to all of you lesser mortals. Go for it.
