Weekend report August 24 - 25

We had a pleasant couple of days with light winds and plenty of sunshine. Greg and Dan were ready to go early on both days, hoping to make one last jaunt up to the White Mountains before the end of August. But the conditions didn't support their ambitions, and they made local flights, along with everyone else. Rich had an hour flight in 3J without a battery or flight recorder, making it to 5400 feet.

Thomas instructed both days and our new student pilot, Henry, made some good progress. Greg and Andy Lawrence took care of the guest rides.  Skip and Dennis flew both days, and Karl and Nancy flew on Sunday.

Nancy brought her camera and took a late afternoon flight in the Blanik, which still does not have a call sign. Put your suggestions in the comments!

Twenty four flights in all, counting Moshe's at Morrisville.

Isn't it Bravo Alpha?

The trouble with Bravo Alpha is that every L-23 in the country has a registration number that ends in BA.

They were all imported by Blanik America.

Since "VY" is taken, how about "HQ"?

How about Papa Bravo, for "pricey Blanik" (or for you crude bastards, "pricey bitch."

Pronounced "doo-wop"? (And presumably ZP is zipee-dee-doo-dah :-)

How about "RS", in honor of Rick, who, besides volunteering as our chief instructor and so forth, has (AFAIK) personally bought the L-13 and then made it available for the club's use through the years, and is now stuck with the grounded hulk?

I vote for Romeo Sierra, too.

Alas, according to the SSA, RS is already claimed by a Mr Robert A Salvo. Perhaps some variation on that theme, e.g., RAS? (Although that's also known as the acronym for the soaring newsgroup on Usenet.) Or ARS? (Hmm, probably not.) Perhaps RIC or RIK?

PS: or, we can use RS anyway, just not register it with the SSA. Duplicates abound. As it is, there are both a PM and a JS flying out of Morrisville!

I appreciate the sentiment, but I would like to veto the "RS" idea. My friend Bob Salvo has promised to bestow this call sign on me when he retires. Also, he is in New England, not far enough away to share.
