It's an omen's orld

Update 07/13/2013:  Thanks to a tie for second, Sarah was awarded the Bronze!

Our friend Sarah Arnold from Tennessee has a very good shot at the podium in the 7th Women's World Gliding Championships (WWGC). The competition is in France, and the races are over at about noon our time each day.

Today is the 9th of 10 days of competition.  Going into today, Sarah was standing 3rd, only 26 points behind the leader.  She completed the task today, but (as of this posting) has not yet been scored.

Here is the Results page from the WWGC website.  Look for Sarah in the Club Class results.  And look for her again tomorrow afternoon, when it will all be over.

The US Team has a blog, as well.

If you don't understand the title of this post, it's because I don't understand the official logo of the contest. I find it strangely attractive, however.

Ok, the glider in the logo completed a loop, apparently
disappeared into some clouds (on instruments, of course, after filing an IFR flight plan), negotiating the last half of an Immelman, coming out into another loop, all while completing the first letter of two different words. Impressive, these women, huh !?

The logo has a large swirly 'W' in red, yes ?

Well, I guess they could be construed as a "W"

Ohhhh, a "W". I can see it now.

Hi Rick, Look at the logo again. The red swoops are also a W making omen's
orld into Women's world. Tis better than the SSA logo which bites large.

Get your mind out of the gutter. It's just a W.

OK, if you say so. I'm also amused to see that France is the center of the orld, and that North America is represented by half of Greenland.

Very odd that you can have the fourth highest score and still get the bronze medal.... Was this a gender based decision, or would the FAI have done the same in a coed championship? A terrific result, of course.

The podium did look a bit strange.

But both of the other options (2nd place person on spot 3, or spot 3 empty) would have looked stranger, in my opinion. They did the right thing.
