there's no "3J" on the tail
The wings are too short. Particularly the left one.
Well done Tom!
Two things:
1. The big problem is it looks like the glider was launched with a tost ring(smaller ring used predominantly on German gliders) Look at the tow rope just before the hook and there is an extension. Could also be a weak link with the proper ring, I can't tell from the picture but given the weight of the 1-23 it shouldn't need a weak link with most ropes.
2. Much smaller issue but it looks as though the pip-pin that holds the tail tie down ring is in place, just in front of the tailwheel.
(3) First takeoff in a new type and you should be waving to the camera, Be cool- then be safe. Congrats Tom.
Rick what did I win?
i believe that GBSC uses a rope with a tost ring built in, and the extension is a schweitzer o-ring
Don't see a shoulder harness could be the pic
The paintlooks faded
Not the tow rope, not the shoulder belts and if you were really picky the tail tie down ring would be the correct answer.
I can't see the shoulder strap in the photo either. Let's assume he's using it!
And the winner is...
Everyone.
I was thinking of the tail tie down, but all the answers were good ones.

Only thing wrong is that I did not get the next flight in 3J. (I see the bungy cord launch pin is still on the back wheel) I'll be back....

I think the only thing wrong is I wasn't on the ground when he landed to say CONGRATS!! Lookin' good!

pilot looks like he's in agony and gased up; a bad combination in a tight space.....broken skid ... tail tie down pin....still doesn't know how to prep....probably has the aileron clamps and rudder trap on too....those shoulder straps are so tight there down to my elbows...not breakin no canopy on this run....
