Heat transfer

Here's a picture of Gordon demonstrating what happens when you toss a cup of hot water into the air at -25°F.

This looks suspiciously like on of these 'breaking the sound barrier' pictures floating around the internet (http://wilk4.com/misc/soundbreak.htm). How do we know that Gordon wasn't simply flying very fast here?

OK, I don't know Gordon nor if he can be trusted, but I went out back behind the house near the woods to pee in the -25 F temps to see if the stream would freeze before it hit the ground.
Well, I chickend out- I was too afraid the testig equipment might sustain unforseen damage during the experiment. Christopher. (PS my electronic thermometer did work and then- 'broke')

I think the picture is real. If Gordon were actually flying, he would have put on his cape.

Are you sure he's not just posing for a Toyota ad?

In addition to the perfect athletic form, notice the lift that Gordon got by this experiment (about 1' of altitude judging by the shadow). Imagine the lift from a gallon of hot water.

If Gordon wore a cape he would be FLASH (frozen) Gordon.

It was -26 at my house.

The lift he got was a thermal you dummies. Geeze, you call yourselves glider pilots?

I can lip read. Shame on you, Gordon!

Of course, I'd be saying the same thing if I was silly enough to be jumping around in shirt sleeves in 25 below.
