Last flight of the year

Andy and Pete headed off into the sunset on the last flying day of 2008:

Don't forget Disassembly Day next Saturday. It's always a lot of fun.

Did the wings break? Last flying day for some I moved my 1-26 to NJ lots of flying days left. The season doesn't have to end you just have to drive 300 miles. And gas is 1.90 in NJ so if you go bring spare gas cans...

30 hours on the road minus an 8hr sleep stop in [lobster] Newburgh, NY, and a 2hr dinner stop in [Innsbruck] State College, PA, all to deliver the carcass of the Advanced Soaring Concept American Spirit 15m glass behemoth built up from kit parts by Peter Williamson, Mentor, and me, Go-4, beginning in 1994. The aeronautical engineering program@Penn State has graciously acceeded to my plea for help performing a properly designed and executed wingloading test on the aircraft to determine its structural integrity (up to 6 positive g's) prior to Rick flying it in the Region 1 Contest next year.

The Rogue's Gallery of senior and graduate students directing the testing is available here. They were kind enough to usher me to a replica Austrian bistro in their fair city the night before the Indiana U. home game and I enjoyed wonderous pork wiener schnitzel with cabbage and potato salad to make your mouth water. There being no rooms, however, @the Inn(sbruck) on the eve of a home game--Beaver Stadium filled to capacity@kickoff in State College is, for the moment, the third largest city in Pennsylvania after Philly and Pittsburgh, home to some 103,000+ fans, according to ESPN)--I departed lighter one Cobra trailer and Spirit glider immediately post-repast and found the first available overnight lodging just on the east side of the Hudson River around 0030 Saturday.

The test is scheduled for 12.10.08. A video is planned. If entertaining enough, it may find its way to YouTube...

A Spirit! I didn't realize we had a local chapter of the Tor Jensen fan club.
