Weekday Desperadoes

Tony, Tim, Kevin, Rick, and Pete mustered on a beautiful sunny Friday. We launched five gliders (7H, PM, 6Q, S2, 3J) during the course of the day and discovered the hard way that Tony's pessimistic forecast was actually true. We made a total of ten flights, and not one of them found a thermal worth talking about.

Despite this, much discussion, cooperation, flight testing, and practice were in evidence. Five guys hanging out at the aerodrome helping each other pursue our manic-depressive avocation. There are a lot worse ways to spend a sunny summer day in Vermont.

Congrats to those who gave it a Friday try. I stained my deck and mowed the lawn-first few consecutive days of sun in a while-but I'm sure a few of you have noted the RAIN this summmer! Maybe the fall will be super. Take care y'all. I'm about to start directing a play that will open the first 2 weekends in Oct "Social Security", so you won't be seeing me anymore. Have fun.

Rick forgot to mention that he thermaled for several hours in plug-ugly conditions yesterday. Tim and I were up for a cup of coffee and then down. Tim fired up his Champ and we tailed Rick doing motor soaring at 1,900 RPM. After watching up close for 20 minutes I'm still not sure how he kept aloft. Rick says it was simply patience. I think it was something more.

Lovely day to go boating, the little one went tubing. Really a magnificent day, could be the last one of summer...
